I can’t express how excited I am about this, and so far the healthcare professionals enrolled in our licensing program feel the same way!

The reason we decided to start a comprehensive licensing program is that we were encountering many healthcare professionals who wanted to start a medical fitness program in their practices, but needed personalized guidance on how exactly to make that happen.

Since my partner and co-founder Rita Bryan and I have almost 40 years of experience doing just that, we knew this was a need we could fill. So we set to work designing a system that would explain exactly how to do it — and do it successfully.

The Medical Fitness Formula™ is the first, complete system and implementation strategy delivering a structured, medically integrated fitness program with emphasis on prevention, health-risk reduction, and an improved lifestyle. The Medical Fitness Formula™ License offers a structured wellness program providing patients with predictable outcomes and results.

It involves a series of processes, protocols, and procedures focusing on the whole person with its foundation built upon ongoing supervision, support, and accountability for the patient. And at the same time providing a sustainable, profitable, efficient, low overhead added service to an existing healthcare practice or business.

The goal of our Medical Fitness Formula™ Licensee Program is to assist healthcare practitioners in improving quality of life through an effective, well-run, sustainable medical fitness program. Whether you are looking to start a new program or revamp an existing program, the Medical Fitness Formula™ offers the opportunity to start, grow, and profit from a medical fitness program using a proven and highly successful business model.

Our Medical Fitness Formula™ License assists healthcare professionals in mastering the business of medical fitness by shortening learning curves, fast-tracking program implementation and profitability, and avoiding costly mistakes hindering progress and financial success.

The Medical Fitness Formula™ Licensee Program offers healthcare professionals an opportunity simply not available elsewhere – the ability to enjoy a thriving medical fitness profit center built on the premise that healing is your first priority, because our strategies, structure and support provide the rest.

Our concept is backed by an experienced licensee support team, dedicated to your success and the proper care of medical fitness program participants.

So if you are at all considering implementing a medical fitness program as part of your practice (and I hope you are!), find out more of the details here: Licensing Opportunities

With the latest trend of including both exercise and nutrition as part of patient consultation and care plans, fitness professionals stand to expand their careers and income by knowing how to approach practitioners and work with them in creating an onsite medical fitness program.

Once the medical physician, physical therapist or chiropractor realizes the “hidden goldmine” they have in both their active and inactive patient files, a fitness professional with the right credentials and proven “formula” can take their skill set to a whole new level.

The “key” to success is understanding the patient population that the healthcare practitioner services in their practice. By providing a systematic approach to implementing and growing a cash-based medical fitness program, the practitioner soon realizes the multiple benefits such an program brings to the practice, including its natural ability to attract new patients to the practice.

At the Medical Fitness Academy, our mission is to teach, guide, and assist healthcare practitioners in getting involved with Medical Fitness at the practice level. We are a team of business, technology, and marketing experts who have been shaping profitable solutions for healthcare practitioners for almost 20 years.

Most physical therapists and chiropractors who are in private practice find they need multiple ways to attract new patients. While patient referrals from other healthcare practitioners and patients are always a preferred type of new patient, physical therapists and chiropractors must still market for additional new patients if they want to grow and maintain a healthy profit margin.

And with ongoing reductions in patient insurance reimbursement, as well as the impending changes in healthcare reform starting to take place, attracting more new patients to your practice takes special strategies that are guaranteed to work month in and month out.

One of the best “game changing” strategies to attract more new patients and increase practice income has been to offer a cash-based medical fitness program as part of your practice services.

Not only does a cash-based medical fitness program in your practice provide a wellness “continuity program” for your current patients after they complete their active care, but it also provides a pathway for attracting new patients to enter your practice as a wellness “client” first.

If your medical fitness program is structured properly, initial clients or members in your program get to experience your practice and build a relationship with you. Then, when an acute health condition occurs or a flare-up of a chronic condition arises, YOU are their “go to” practitioner they seek out first.

This is why having a cash-based medical fitness program as one of the services you provide can quickly become a new patient “magnet” that can help generate tens of thousands of dollars in additional practice revenue each month. And with 5 proven ways you can implement a medical fitness program in your practice, it is the easiest.

I hope so.

“Trends over the past 10 years suggest that the medical community is increasing its efforts to recommend participation in exercise and other physical activity that research has shown to be associated with substantial health benefits,” states the report, from the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics.

In 2010, 1 in 3 adults who saw a doctor or other health care professional was advised to increase their physical activity as a means of maintaining or improving their health. That’s a significant increase over 2000, when less than a quarter of consultations included such advice.

What Does This Mean To You?

Plenty. This is an important development because patients listen to their doctors. It’s a fact that patients are nearly five times more likely to exercise if their doctors counsel them to do so. They are even more likely to keep active if their doctor follows up with them after the initial prescription. You already know that exercise lowers the risk of many chronic diseases, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and depression.

Yet, according to government estimates, only 3 in 10 U.S. adults get the recommended amount of exercise each week. This means there is a HUGE opportunity for you as a healthcare provider to not only help improve the health of your patients, but improve the health of your “bottom line” as well.

5 Proven Business Models

There are essentially five ways or five proven ”business models” you can use to as a healthcare professional to make the most of this medical fitness opportunity.

The first business model is to develop an Assessment/Prescription/Accountability Program within your practice. This entails having a systematic process by which you first evaluate a patient and determine their level of ”readiness” to exercise. This can be enhanced through the use of some fairly sophisticated technology now available to assess a patient’s Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) and their Exercise Metabolic Rate (EMR).

The second element of the program is to develop a structured exercise prescription for the patient that they can perform either at a local health club or at home and that will bring about timely improvements in both strength and cardiovascular efficiency, along with weight loss, an improved body composition (lower body fat), and more energy.

And the last element in this business model is to provide the “accountability factor” by conducting Weekly or Bi-Weekly Check-Ins & Review Sessions so the patient stays on track to accomplishing their goals. Of course, since the patient is performing their prescribed medical fitness program somewhere other than your facility or office, you’re missing out on a very viable, recurring cash income stream that could add tens of thousands of dollars to your practice each month.

At the Medical Fitness Academy, our mission is to teach, guide, and assist healthcare practitioners in getting involved with Medical Fitness at the practice level. We are a team of business, technology, and marketing experts who have been shaping profitable solutions for healthcare practitioners for almost 20 years.

Let us help you regain control of your practice with a medical fitness solution that will allow you to achieve higher profitability and greater success in the “business side” of your practice. To accomplish this, the Medical Fitness Academy offers both consulting services and licensing opportunities to help interested healthcare practitioners set up and implement staff-operated medical fitness programs with self-supported marketing programs in their practices.

Let us show you the best way to leverage your existing staff, space and resources with medical fitness programs to increase your income. Let us show you a few medical fitness models that will align with your practice and financial goals. Give us the opportunity to help you to build your practice vision with one of our medical fitness program solutions. It all starts with a FREE 20-Minute Phone Consultation with us so we can get to know a little more about you and your practice.

In a future post, I’ll share another Medical Fitness Business Model that you can use to easily start, grow, and profit from an all-cash medical fitness program within your practice. But in the meantime, to get more information about how you can use medical fitness to attract more new patients to your practice, schedule your FREE 20-Minute Phone Consultation with us at MedicalFitnessAcademy.com.

This much is pretty consistent within the healthcare industry.

However, there are differing views on the best way to make this happen, and I must say — one of the ways really is WAY better than the other.

Basically, there are two options: 1) start your own program from the ground up using a proven "template" or 2) buy some sort of developed fitness franchise and adhere to their exact rules and regulations.

The second option might sounds nice, right? At least, it sounds like less work. But the truth is there are some major downsides to buying a franchise.

For one thing, even if there was a fitness franchise you could implement into your practice, your franchised program becomes subject to the reputation of the corporate business. Time and again, this has proved to be a problem for franchisees. Also, you will never be out from underneath the corporation’s control, meaning you will need to follow certain guidelines and most likely pay fees on a monthly basis to keep your program open.

Your best option, by far, is to start your own program from the ground up using a proven "template". By template I mean through licensing a system that already has a proven track record. It isn’t nearly as daunting as it sounds and if you have the right "formula", you can have your medical fitness program launched and making money in 90 days or less when you choose to license our proven system. Plus… once launched, you get to operate your program how you feel you ought to operate it and you get to keep all of the money you make!

I have been helping healthcare professionals do this for the past 20 years, and I have developed a formula that shows you exactly how to be successful.

You, on the other hand, start building a predictable monthly cash revenue stream. As long as you are providing an excellent service and program, patients will stay enrolled and you will have an additional profit center in your practice.

Here are two simple rules to remember about billing:

* You can’t sell single exercise sessions, and

* You can’t sell small blocks or packages of exercise sessions.

Of course, you shouldn’t want to offer single sessions anyway. This situation is lose/lose for both you and your patients. No patient can really benefit from a single session or just a handful of sessions. A handful of sessions will not produce permanent results and a positive lifestyle change for your patients.

And you won’t be happy either because there is no predictability in income when you sell one exercise session at a time. If your program is going to deliver reliable and predictable income over time, you need to be providing long-term, reliable services that get results.

So the 5th crucial component is an automated billing system that makes paying easier on your patients and helps your program produce reliable income.

With your medical fitness program, you need to provide that, and there are three levels on which you can. The first level is provided by you, their doctor. The second is provided by your staff and the third by the systems inherent in your program.

First Level: You.

Your job is medical oversight. You oversee your medical fitness program, policies, staff and program outcomes. This oversight demonstrates to your patients that while you’re not directly providing the services to them, you are still committed to their ongoing participation and success. Your involvement as this advisor and overseer helps to increase the number of patients that participate in the program and it improves their overall compliance to the program.

Second Level: Your Staff.

When you begin your program, we recommend you hire just one CERTIFIED and/or degreed exercise professional. Initially, this staff member implements your strength training and aerobic exercise programs, and helps perform all your exercise assessments, evaluations and re-assessments and re-evaluations. Then as your program grows, you can hire additional support staff that will operate underneath your exercise professional.

Third Level: Your Program.

Your program holds your patients accountable through your systems of assessment & evaluation, strength training, and aerobic exercise. It is part of the program to track success and measure goals, and this in itself provides the patient with motivation and accountability.

By following these two simple principles, you will create a powerful culture of transformation within your program, just like we have.

This means your patients receive structured, supervised programs and services that address their individual needs on an ongoing basis.

Here are the four fundamental ingredients to include in your patient’s program:

1. Exercise Readiness Screening - You need a systematic process that screens for chronic conditions and the potential for exercise-related injuries. This makes it easier to decide how to adjust your program to meet their needs.

2. Strength Training Regimen - I suggest that “strength training” is the most important ingredient in your medical fitness program. Unlike the 70’s where the trend was aerobic exercise only, countless studies have identified the health benefits of regular strength exercise. Training for strength makes muscles strong, and it’s especially effective for the de-conditioned adult population. To be effective, the strength training part of the program must be tailored to the individual, allow for progress and be consistently executed.

3. Aerobic Exercise - The benefits of aerobic exercise are enormous and obviously a well-rounded medical fitness program should include this type of exercise. We recommend your patients be tested prior to starting the aerobic portion of their program. This generally include specific assessment of their exercise metabolism. This helps to identify optimal intensity levels and avoid the risks of under or over exercising.

4. Periodic Progress Re-assessments – Reviewing progress and identifying opportunities for improvement will keep your patients — now cash-paying clients — motivated and invested in their program.

Health clubs practice the “jack of all trades” approach to fitness and try to have something there for everyone. As a health professional with an individual practice, you’re not going to be able to compete with health clubs, gyms and hospital-based wellness centers on that front.

So, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is biting off more than you can chew by trying to offer programs and services to meet the needs of every age group and fitness level in your practice. You need to specialize. Clearly define your niche markets — no more than one or two — and offer those niches a specialized solution for their needs. Don’t try to target all your patients, or you’ll end up with no patients in your programs.

This is not only smart marketing, it is smart business — and it works.

Our greatest success has been with the middle-aged, de-conditioned adult market, ages 35 to 60. This section of the population generally doesn’t fare well at health clubs and gyms. So they are disenchanted and ready to try something new. Also, they are more prone to being out of shape and ready to do something about it.

So the first crucial medial fitness component is to pick a target niche and offer them a better solution. Real success, money, and personal satisfaction lives at the fringes of the market, not in the middle.
